Do you find yourself raiding the refrigerator about the time you should be heading for bed? Or even worse grabbing some munchies food from the cupboard which is instant sugar.
There are many reasons why you may get the munchies in the middle of the night.
- Genuine hunger
- Low salt or sugar levels
- Lack of protein
Whatever the reason, your hunger needs to be satisfied. What should you grab? (Not those munchies!)
- Protein bars
- Granola Bars
- Fruit or veggies
- Cheese sticks
- Peanut butter toast
- Crackers and cheese
- Nuts and dried fruits
It is best to grab proteins for the slow burn. Watch your crackers and breads to make sure they are not loaded with hidden sugars and do the same with dried fruits.
They key is avoiding sugar spike and plunge while you are sleeping. It could wake you up even more hungry but more often it makes it painful to drag your crashed carcass out of bed in the morning. Ever wonder why mornings are so hard? What are you eating before bed or are you trying to be good and not eat anything before bed.
Our bodies do most of their recuperating while we sleep. This takes energy and giving your body a reasonable whole food (not quick junk food) snack (not meal) before you nestle in for the night is one of the best things you can do.
Your body speaks.
You need to listen.
